Well, we’re a week into September — can you believe how fast this year has flown by?! — and fall is definitely starting to roll in, especially here in chilly New Jersey.
Anyone who knows me knows fall weddings are my absolute favorite. After all, Michael and I had a fall wedding last November. So I wanted to poll some experts to find out what the hottest wedding theme trends for fall are, and here they are…
According to wedding author Sharon Naylor, a big trend for comfortable-weather fall weddings is using a rustic theme. On a lovely autumn day, the rustic outdoor setting might feature lanterns, lots of gorgeous wildflowers, a blend of rustic charm with an elegant touch.
I think Franny and Joe’s rustic-inspired wedding I featured earlier this year definitely gives some inspiration if you’re looking into the rustic style…
Peacock has been a theme/color scheme that I’ve been a fan of for quite a while now, and according to bridal consultant Catharine Han, I’m not alone. In wedding’s she’s designed, brides have opted for fall shades like brown, accented with peacock teal and gold. Of course, peacock feathers are a big part of the decor!
There’s a seriously stunning peacock-themed wedding over on wedding photographer, Stacy Reeves’ blog if you’re looking for inspiration for this theme…
3. Shades of Autumn
If you’re looking to go for the more traditional fall theme route, Janice Cutler of North Raleigh Florist suggests a color scheme of oranges, rusts and browns. She mentions that the most popular requests she receives from brides are for accents with fall leaves, berries and grasses. Colored or flowering branches with varying textures are popular in both traditional and contemporary arrangements.
Stacey Halstead of Create the Moment adds that many brides opt for centerpieces of hollowed out pumpkins filled with fall flowers. She says centerpieces incorporating pine cones, wheat stalks, gourds, wild berries and nuts are rising in popularity as well, and more and more lanterns are seen as either centerpieces or aisle decor.
I’m loving the use of pumpkins in this fall wedding shot by Evrim Icoz…
4. Grand Romance
The Wedding Paper Divas told me about the return to sophisticated elegance. With the royal wedding occurring this year, many brides are being influenced by the classic style, which ties in well with a black and white color scheme.
Back in June, I featured Lindsey and Justin’s black and white wedding, which provides some great inspiration for this theme…
Los Angeles event planners Jodi Cohen and Sarah Lowy of JOWY Productions told me that eco-friendly weddings and accents are on the rise of popularity. Green, environmental friendly weddings include succulents that can be replanted and re-used, as well as china and flatware made from bamboo. LED lighting, recycled paper invitations, electronic invitations, recycled paper programs and food from local farms and purveyors are all elements of an eco-chic affair.
Last month, I featured Chelsey & Austin’s eco-chic wedding (one of my most popular posts I might add), which provides some great inspiration for this theme…
What other fall wedding themes are you feeling this year?
